Rev. Taylor Goodwin - Lead Pastor

In the Words of Pastor Taylor...

My Life Story

I was born and raised in the Birmingham area of Alabama. I was blessed to be born to two Christian parents who understood the necessity of raising their kids in Church and discipling them in the home. I professed faith in Christ as Savior and Lord at 8 years old. I was baptized and continued to go to God daily in prayer with childlike trust. Through Middle School and High School, my faith flimsily consisted of praying for others and the things I wanted. In my early 20s, my faith began to mature as I leaned heavily on the Lord's help for mental, physical, and emotional provisions as I endured difficult military training, college, and scary family illnesses.

In my mid-20s, my faith truly and finally became my own as I had a significant power encounter with the Holy Spirit. In a single moment, Jesus delivered me from some significant deep and dark sins that had controlled my life for years. After that moment of freedom, I ultimately responded to God by devoting my life to helping others find the same freedom in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

After answering God's call to pastor, I completed my Master of Divinity at seminary at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY. During seminary, I served as the full-time Lead Pastor at GracePoint at Mt. Olive UMC in Mt. Olive, AL. In the summer of 2023, I was appointed to Taylorville Methodist Church as the Lead Pastor. In 2021, I married my wife Sarah. She is also a Lead Pastor at TMC and my number one coworker in the ministry!

Hope for Taylorville Methodist

My hope for TMC is that we would be a household of faith that is decidedly serious about growing as transformed learners (disciples) of Jesus Christ by how we worship, love God and others, and by how we witness the Gospel in making the Kingdom of God visible in all aspects of our lives.

Rev. Sarah Goodwin - Assistant Pastor

In the Words of Pastor Sarah...

My Life Story

I may have been born and mostly raised in Virginia for 20 years (with a few stints elsewhere in early childhood thanks to the Army), but you will hear me say "y'all" and drink my sweet tea happily! I grew up in a Christian family, was baptized as an infant by my United Methodist grandfather like my four siblings, and grew up learning about the faith. While I knew I believed in Jesus, it wasn't until I was a teenager that my faith became truly my own. At a retreat, after someone felt moved enough to pray specifically for me during prayer time in small groups, 14 year old me felt the Spirit of God move in my life while I sat behind a couch as I found my main identity as a daughter in Christ the King for the first time. And I have ever since.

In college, having attended a local church regularly and finding mentors in religion classes, I finally found a church home where I flourished and was able to bring gifts of music and teaching - and, through an internship, surprisingly preaching! In 2016, the Lord called me from pursuing teaching English literature or music leadership to teaching and shepherding His people; this came close to the death of my grandfather, the one who baptized my siblings and me. It would take another two years to discern the exact nature of my call as a pastor or chaplain, and another year to stop running from God's call to ordination.

After graduating college in 2018, I immediately left Virginia for the bluegrass of Kentucky to attend Asbury Theological Seminary, where I received my Master of Divinity in 2021. After seminary was a whirlwind. I graduated, got married to my best ministry partner and husband Taylor, and moved to Alabama. I served full-time as senior pastor of Fultondale UMC (now Fulton Springs) in Fultondale, AL. Taylor is also a Lead Pastor here at TMC, and keeps us on track!

Hope for Taylorville Methodist

My hope and prayer for TMC is that we truly become worshippers of our King and Savior Jesus, who are on mission to make heaven visible on earth, and who aren't afraid to love those the world says we shouldn't - because we're those very same people. Jesus transforms those who respond to His call, and I can't wait to see how Taylorville will build one another up as a worshipping community!

Regina Noland - Traditional Worship Leader

Regina has been directing the sanctuary choir and music ministry for several years. You will find her enthusiasm and joy in traditional worship each week uncontainable as she leads the congregation in song!

Hayden Sexton - Contemporary Worship Leader

Hayden started serving as the Contemporary worship leader at TMC in 2018 after growing up right here at Taylorville.

Angie Chen - Traditional Pianist

Angie began serving as our church pianist in 2003. Her musical offerings support our Traditional Service, as well as special services.

Michelle Hansford - Administrative Assistant

Michelle started with TMC in June 2020. Born and raised in Tuscaloosa County, Michelle currently lives in Northport with her husband Glen and daughter Madie. Michelle and Glen also have two older sons -- Tayler, who is completing law school at Samford University, and Bo, who works with the University of Alabama at the Bryant Conference Center. Michelle has homeschooled all of her children for several years, and Glen is a Tuscaloosa Firefighter. Michelle enjoys spending time with her family and (actively) supporting Madie at her volleyball games. When you walk into the church office, you will find Michelle's helpfulness, cheerfulness, and love for Jesus apparent!
